WORLD AIDS DAY - DECEMBER 1

World AIDS Day is held on the 1 st  December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. Nirmala college of arts and science organized an awareness class about AIDS on 3/12/18 at seminar hall. All s6 students attended the class. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day, held for the first time in 1988.

Globally there are an estimated 34 million people who have the virus. Despite the virus only being identified in 1984, more than 35 million people have died of HIV or AIDS, making it one of the most destructive pandemics in history.

Today, scientific advances have been made in HIV treatment, there are laws to protect people living with HIV and we understand so much more about the condition. Despite this, people do not know the facts about how to protect themselves and others, and stigma and discrimination remain a reality for many people living with the condition.

World AIDS Day is important because it reminds the public and Government that HIV has not gone away – there is still a vital need to raise money, increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education. The federal theme for the 2018 observance is “Saving Lives through Leadership and Partnerships.”

Mr.Mijeesh, health inspector of Meloor was the chief guest. Mr.vinod and Deepa of lovefeast,Thrissur conducted the class. They were the victims of AIDS. They shared their life story and experiences. The Rajya Sabha has cleared a constitutional amendment to bring about a system of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in India. It is perhaps the most important economic reform item on the Narendra Modi government’s agenda. This is one reform which affects all of us. The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a value-added tax levied on most goods and services sold for domestic consumption. The GST is paid by consumers, but it is remitted to the government by the businesses selling the goods and services. In effect, GST provides revenue for the government. Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an indirect tax levied in India on the sale of goods and services. Goods and services are divided into five tax slabs for collection of tax - 0%, 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%. The pros and cons of implementation of GST were discussed over. Also students pointed out the ignorance of common man and his interpretation regarding the same.
